The 2010 Mock Trial team was AMAZING! After four months of intense training and preparation, led by our attorney coach, Randy Herndon, our team argued a criminal case that involved an Irish mobster, played by Austin Barrington and a defendant, played by Kristen Tideman, who had been charged for murdering her business partner by locking her inside an industrial freezer. Witnesses consisted of a jailhouse snitch, played by Billy Soistmann, an accountant, played by Estella Aviles, a police detective, played by Lauren Tuttle and a criminologist, played by Tori Norris. Yanni Kaliakin succeeded in the most difficult challenge of playing as both the prosecution and defense attorney.
Excitement grew with each passing round as Wilmington Christian dominated in character witnesses as well as lawyers. As said by the scoring judges, “It was one of the most intense, exciting final rounds that had ever been witnessed!” Yanni Kaliakin was awarded three gavels for his exquisite performance as a lawyer. He was also recognized for his achievement of being awarded the most gavels for any lawyer in the competition. Kristen Tideman received two gavels for her excellent portrayal of our defendant and Austin Barrington received three gavels for his portrayal of “Lucky Lou,” our mobster.
II Timothy 1:7 God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.
