Elementary Principal: Dr. Giambri

The Construction of a Foundationally Sound Curriculum

Ask any architect, engineer, or builder and you will find that the foundation is vital to the successful construction of a structure. Without the proper support collapse is inevitable. A well-known example of such foundational failure is the Leaning Tower of Pisa, which was constructed in three phases over a period of almost two hundred years. During the early phases of construction the Tower began to give way and corrections were made at each floor in order to maintain a level structure. However, success was not to be achieved within the surface edifice. In recent years structural experts have concluded that, given the characteristics of the ground beneath the Tower, the foundation was inadequate to support its weight.

You might be asking yourself, “What does a Tower in Italy have to do with the elementary education of a child in Hockessin, Delaware?” The truths we have learned from this object lesson regarding the importance of a good foundation are applicable to any educational community, and are even more significant to a Christian educational community.
