WCS has been awarded the license to produce and perform “Sunshine on Leith” as it’s winter high school musical. This musical was created and produced by Dundee Rep Theatre in Scotland, it has never before been licensed in the United States or Canada. Performances will be on February 27, 28, and March 1, 2014. Currently, the music department is in the vocal and pit band rehearsals phase of the production. Both groups meet twice a week, either before or after school. Wilmington Christian School sent three teams from the computer science department to compete on November 14th with teams from more than forty schools in Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland for the ninth annual Widener University High School Programming Competition. The teams consisted of seniors James Dingwall, Corbin McNeill, Michael Gray, and Aaron Miller; junior Nathanael Albrecht; and sophomores Elliot Miller and Austin Kreer. Corbin and Aaron completed all seven of the programs correctly in 240 minutes, winning a first place trophy and a cash prize.
“The Miracle Worker,” cast will take to the stage for their first performance on Thursday evening, October 31st. Doors will open at 6:30pm for the 7:00pm performance, with tickets available at the door for $12 each. WCS student tickets will be $6.00, faculty and staff will be admitted for free. The play continues through the evenings of November 1st and 2nd. Students from the WCS elementary, middle and high school are working together for this production, and it promises to be an excellent evening of entertainment with an inspiring message. The Miracle Worker, is the story of Helen Keller and her teacher Annie Sullivan. In order of appearance, the cast includes: Zachary Lewis, Lydia Willetts, Ryan Bradford, Kristen McGrail, Kamani Conteh, Santigie Conteh, Margaret Botbyl, Jeremy Gouveia, Charlotte Brooks, Kaylene Mummert, Ramsom Boulet, Maya Bradley, Francesca Fioravanti, Katie Barton, Cassie Otersen, and Tina Sanders. WCS will also be introducing precious pup, Sadie as “Belle” the dog. The play will be directed by Allyson Good, and under the leadership of Barbara Schiller, Fine Arts Director.
The Winter Clothing Drive, sponsored by the Wilmington Christian School National Honor Society, will be held from October 18th-November 15th. Now is the perfect time to check your closets for warm winter coats, hats, and mittens that may no longer fit members of your own family. They will be appreciated by other families that may not have the budget to keep their children warm as we approach the winter months. Items will be shared with the Sunday Breakfast Mission as part of a service project. Please bring your donation of new and gently used outerwear of clean clothing items to the tables in the Fine Arts foyer by November 15th. The Annual Thanksgiving Food Drive is sponsored by the WCS High School Senate and supported by the elementary, middle and high school students, staff, families and friends. Food and money donations will be accepted from November 1 until Tuesday, November 26th. Food will be delivered by students and adult volunteers on Wednesday, November 27th, 2013. Donations are being collected in the high school foyer and elementary foyer. What to donate? Canned goods, boxed (dry) goods, money donations and turkeys. WCS Moms in Prayer Join hands and hearts with other moms as we pray Lamentations 2:19 over the lives of our children.
