Elementary Production of “Discovery at Camp Wise-N-Up!”

The elementary students take the stage. On Thursday evening, March 25th the elementary third through fifth grades presented
“Discovery at Camp Wise – N – Up!”  It was a delightful adventure through which our kids discovered the wisdom found in the book of Proverbs. Our kids joined Sol, a crocodile hunter from way-down under, Sally, his down under assistant, and a group of not-so-lazy ants to learn important lesson about following God’s path for our lives.

I would like to give you a look behind the scenes of what takes place when preparing for our musicals.  As most of you know, your kids are the main characters!  During each chorus time for their class, students begin to learn the songs starting in December.  Usually there are 7-8 songs for each musical so we have to move pretty quickly!  The sign-ups for drama begin, and, after final auditions, our group of drama students give up recesses and have after school rehearsals to prepare for the show.

Students from the cast sit on the steps. In January we begin to create the set design and think about our costumes.  These past 3 years I have had the blessing of working with Joyce Sorowice as our lead set designer.  I have never seen someone so creative.  What she can do with power tools is amazing!  She teams up with other parent volunteers and “voila” – a set is born!

Our costumes designer this year was Linnea Tideman.  She, too, has the creative gene.  Spending very little $, she takes our ideas and turns them into costumes and accessories.  A special thanks to both of these ladies and all the other parents who helped in these areas!

The staging, lighting and sound were coordinated by Mike Ingram and several of our teachers.  Thank you to Mrs. Blatchford, Miss Yerkes, Mrs. Pitman, Mrs. Medinilla and Mrs. Piraino for all your assistance this year!Sol and Sally on stage

During the week of performance we work hard. We practice some during the mornings, and also a few afternoons.  The kids are tired but keep going because they know it is almost time!  Then finally…the time comes.  Your kids present all their hard work and hopefully learn more of God’s truths in the process!  Whew…now I really am tired!  But, what an adventure!
