Merry Christmas! We had a great Christmas Classic Week! Some of the “twins” reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny Devito, but it was a lot of fun. Thanks to the many parents that sent in money and food for our Christmas Food Drive. There are so many that are in need this year. We will be able to help many families because of your generous donations!
Congratulations to the many students who participated in our Fine Arts Christmas Program. It was truly a blessing to watch the students perform. I was also blessed by the art projects that were on display in the Auditorium foyer.
Our students are being offered the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee. If your child is interested, please read on! WCS may send one contestant from Grades 4-8 to the regional meet being held at St. Mark’s High School on Saturday, February 27, 2010. In order to determine the WCS contestant, we will be holding a spelling contest in early February. This is a voluntary event. Lists of words and contest details are available in the middle school office for all interested students. We will be offering times during study halls and lunches where students can practice the words. If you are interested in helping students prepare for the spelling bee, please contact me through the middle school office.
Our middle school students have been participating in an advisory program each Friday afternoon. The girls, through some money provided by the Red Clay School District, will be reading through sections of the book Lies Young Women Believe. Parents, I encourage you to talk to your daughters about the topics as they are discussed. These sessions will begin in late January after we finish watching the DVD The Ultimate Gift.
Christmas vacation begins at the end of the day on Friday, December 18, 2009. We will have an Upper School Chapel at 1:15 PM, followed by homeroom Christmas parties. If you are willing to help out with a homeroom party, please contact the appropriate homeroom teacher. School resumes Monday, January 4, 2010!
If your student is going to be absent from school or leaving school early, there is a quick and easy way to notify the school. Visit our school website www.wilmingtonchristian.org and click on “parent.” There are two submission forms that are very important to the middle school office. The absentee notification and early dismissal forms are invaluable when keeping track of attendance. Please fill the forms out and submit them when appropriate!
See you next year!!
Praying for the Lord’s Blessing on the Week!
