Wilmington Christian School

Middle School “Heads Up” – 1/25/2010

January 25, 2010

The students are to be commended for the successful completion of mid-terms and the first semester of the school year.  Their hard work and studying has paid off!  We begin our new marking period today.  New schedules were given to the students.  Many electives and “specials” have changed.  Look over the schedule with your child and call the office to add any electives.

This is also the point where the accumulation of infractions starts over!  All students start back at “zero” and are encouraged to stay there!  The points earned from repeated infractions do NOT start over.  If your child is already receiving multiple points for tardies, dress code violations, or gum-chewing, they will continue to receive multiple points!

The WCS faculty and staff participated in a wonderful Biblical Worldview Seminar with Dr. Bruce Lockerbie on Friday.  This seminar helps us fulfill some of the goals for our Accreditation.

There are several middle school basketball games scheduled for this week.  If you haven’t had the opportunity to come out and support our teams, check out the www.wcswarriorssports.com web site for dates and times.

This is Spirit Week in the High School.  Our Middle School has been invited to watch the skits.  In order to show our support, on Thursday the students are allowed to wear the “colors” of the class of their choosing.  For example, if your daughter has an older sister who is a junior, she can wear blue and pink to support the junior class!  It is a fun day, and no uniforms are necessary!  Freshmen colors are purple and orange; sophomore colors are red and yellow; junior colors are blue and pink; senior colors are green and white.

On Thursday, January 28th, at 2:00 PM, our Learning Support Services Personnel will host a parent meeting.  Come out and find out more about Learning Support.  This is also the night of our next School Board Meeting.  Please pray for our Board of Trustees!

On Saturday, January 30th, WCS will host the first New Student Testing and Prospective Parent Interviews for the 2010-2011 School Year.  We encourage you to share your WCS experience with other families and invite them to contact our Admissions Office!

Our next Math League Meet is scheduled for Wednesday, February 3rd.  We are hosting this meet.  Several of you have volunteered to help make snack bags for this meet.  We thank you in advance.  Mrs. Schorn will be sending out an email to all our Math League parents with specific “jobs” and requests!  Please help out if possible.  This will count toward your volunteer hours.

On Fridays, our middle school girls will be participating in a program entitled Lies Young Women Believe.  We encourage our parents to discuss the topics with their daughters.  There is outside reading that is suggested in order to get the most out of our sessions together.  There is also a study guide that would be an excellent journaling or devotional experience for our girls.

Our students are being offered the opportunity to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.  If your child is interested, please read on!  WCS may send one contestant from Grades 4-8 to the regional meet being held at St. Mark’s High School on Saturday, February 27, 2010.  In order to determine the WCS contestant, we will be holding a spelling contest on February 11th. This is a voluntary event.  Lists of words and contest details are available in the middle school office for all interested students.  We will be offering times during study halls and lunches where students can practice the words.  If you are interested in helping students prepare for the spelling bee, please contact me through the middle school office.

If your student is going to be absent from school or leaving school early, there is a quick and easy way to notify the school.  Visit our school website www.wilmingtonchristian.org and click on “parent.” There are two submission forms that are very important to the middle school office.  The absentee notification and early dismissal forms are invaluable when keeping track of attendance.  Please fill the forms out and submit them when appropriate!

Praying for the Lord’s Blessing on the Week!
